Grassy Flats Restoration 20150822

I had the opportunity to volunteer with the Arthur R. Marshall Foundation for The Everglades in planting spartina and mangroves at Grassy Flats island, a manmade island in Lake Worth, off of Bryant Park South. It was great to get dirty two generations of interns, and Palm Beach County Department of Environmental Resources Management, of course!

Volunteers in Action – August 22, 2015
A dedicated group of more than 50 volunteers braved the hot weather this morning and quickly planted nearly 4,000 marsh grass plugs and 200 mangroves as part of the Grassy Flats Restoration Project. The project, located along Lake Worth Lagoon’s eastern shoreline in the town of Palm Beach, is a multi-partner collaboration to restore 13 acres of the lagoon to a thriving marine environment. Staff from our department and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (MyFWC) coordinated this final stage of the project. A big thanks to the West Palm Beach Fishing Club, the Marine Industries Association of Palm Beach County, the Youth Environmental Alliance and LagoonKeepers for participating today.
