Oh how busy I have been! Did I mention I got an 84% on my second Chem exam? Good, now ignore the fact that I got a 60% on the third. *headdesk* I don't understand. I have a 95% in the lab, I'm busting my buns to do as many of the practice problems as possible. I went to the school's SI sessions, (had to stop the non-school ones as they became paid-only). The only explanation is I'm STILL not studying enough. Not doing enough problems. In class he reads from his slides which are pasted from the textbook and then walks, agonizingly, through the book problems (which are nothing like the exam problems). Still, I cannot blame the educator, because the 60 (yes... MY 60) was the median, which means exactly half the class was higher than me. Who knows how much higher (average was 58) but higher. So, I can do better. I must. I need eggs-smackly an 80 to get a B in the class now, and a 95.9% to get my A-. It's impossible for me to get a straight A now. I'm mortified tha

Green Arrow, Vol. 1: Quiver by Kevin Smith My rating: 5 of 5 stars Finally sat down to read Quiver. Just... I love it. I'm not sure I even have anything constructive to say. The art was great and fit the movement of the story. The story was fantastic. I had to start reading aloud to slow myself down. I recognized a lot of the middle issues from Road to the Altar (since I read that first) but they'd only used the Dinah specific parts for that volume so it was great to read the rest. Green Arrow/Black Canary, Vol. 1: The Wedding Album by Judd Winick My rating: 5 of 5 stars Holy roller-coaster ride Batman! I liked the art, love the stories, have a few moments that are my favorites. I even teared up a little. I loved loved loved it, and I'll leave it at that. The Green Lantern/Green Arrow Collection, Vol. 2 by Dennis O'Neil My rating: 4 of 5 stars A little cheesey, a little preachy (Isaac, the green terrorist), and definitely a direct continuation of volume 1. I'd heard about the Speedy issue but hadn't read it. It was... pushed a little hard but I understand why. It's a good story and I think it was done pretty well. Losing the kid from the mob was... a little heart-wrenching. I didn't like the "Earthquake beware my power" (when we meet John Stewart, Green Lantern). It's supposed to be this story about how differences aren't negatives and one man's manner of doing things can be just as effective as another man's, but it just comes off as annoying. I don't LIKE Stewart. Hal's all "Your style turned me off" but it seems to be no problem, like figuring out the shooter in the end makes up for the fact that he's a blatant racist! You don't get

We take a break from our regularly scheduled chemistry to bring you... chemistry. We got our grades back from Exam 2. We were given 15 more minutes, 5 less questions, and even though I was not able to finish doing problems for the last chapter (curse you illness and subsequent malaise) I managed an 84% on it. Not the A I always hope for, but more along the lines of what I expect. The class average was a 60%, so the alteration did do the class some good... raised the average by a whole 8%. Must keep plowing forward though, I can still make an A in the class if I boogie-oogie. So far, still high 40's (out of 50) on my lab reports. Today brings my grade in lab to 95%, though I think there's a "drop" which makes it a wee higher. Doing better in lab than in lecture is NOT something I expect from myself in chemistry. Green Arrow/Black Canary: For Better or Worse by Dennis O'Neil My rating: 5 of 5 stars The art spans 34 years and several lines of DC comics. The style ranges from cheesey to broody, and it's a wonderful summary of the relationship GA and BC built, sundered, rebuilt... I enjoyed the information tucked between comics to fill in gaps. It's a weird gap between Marianne's kiss and Dinah leaving (from cap to hood...) and I haven't read that chunk so it felt odd. I don't think I would have felt as weird if I hadn't noticed the costume difference. It's.A HUGE gap between her leaving and his death, but understandable: Dinah wasn't there and this book is about them. All in all I think it was a great summary with great pieces chosen to show just how messed up those two are. View all my reviews

Showcase Presents: Green Arrow, Vol. 1 by DC Comics My rating: 4 of 5 stars Campy, predictable, silly arrows, time travel, Robin Hood, Merlin, wacky science, a little bit of old timey acceptable racial stereotyping, a female archer who stereotypically bungles everything while trying to be save the hero (but ends up being useful anyway)... it's ridiculous and I really enjoyed it. It's worth it for sheer fun and to really see where Green Arrow started. The compendium ends with an issue after a 28 month break from the character. It's implied that during this time Ollie gave up being G.A. to mature into a businessman doing good for the state as a financier (and to grow a handsome Van Dyke beard). He'd made alterations to the costume (notably trading cuffed boots for tight ones, long-cuffed gloves for a combination glove/arm guard, and a short tunic laced up the front) transforming it into the, now iconic, Green Arrow costume. I'm not dead, just busy! Summer's Chem2 is moving right along and even my weekends are full of study. We took Exam 1 and the class average was 52%. I'm rather ashamed of my grade; it's above the average but no where near acceptable to me. Most of the students are in an uproar because we have 30 questions, mostly computational, and one hour to do them. Most of us ended up bubbling in 3-4 in the end. I bubbled four. Mathematically I'd need to get an average of 90 on the next two and final to earn the A-. Honestly I could do as poorly as a 66 average on them to get the C+ required for graduation, but I'll be lobotomized before that becomes acceptable to me. So, looking at the B. Bleh. Little dance: I was able to get into Fall's Orgo class. Now I just need to pass THIS chem with a reasonable grade. Also for fall: Genetics, Intro to Teaching, and Physical Science. Thirteen credits.
